The concept of this zine is that there is a Saniwa going around the 10th anniversary conference and interviewing the Saniwa OCs/personas they meet in the first half, along with various articles that could be submitted from fellow saniwa (“in universe”). The second half will be focusing on the creators of the Saniwa as themselves (not in universe).

The idea is to mimic a newsletter or traditional magazine that’s covering the gathering and showcasing the saniwa attending.

Outline

I. Saniwa Focus

A. Photos of saniwa at the fictional conference.
B. Summary of conference by moderators.
C. Articles and other extras.
D. Saniwa Interview

II. Creator Focus

A. Creator Interviews
B. Fun graph and stats
C. IRL photo collage

III. Credits

Submission Requirements

Below are the requirements and what will be asked from each submission. You will be able to go back and edit up until the form closes.

You will mainly be submitting gdrive links, but there are some options for direct uploads.

Final zine size: A4 and letter.
Everything must be 300 dpi unless otherwise specified!
Submissions must be .PNG for RGB (digital), and TIFF, PDF, OR JPG for CMYK (print option - this is optional but encouraged if you want your colors to be correct when others print)

Note: Feel free to share your WIPs and final pieces online before the zine releases. This isn’t paid content so there’s no confidentiality needed.

A pinterest board of possible layout ideas: https://pin.it/2hEg1Hs17

Setting: The time government manages an island town within a pocket dimension of their own. There are a variety of rooms and buildings displaying styles from Japan's history along with many technological advancements such as holograms. The setting is pretty varied, so you have some freedom over the background.

Here is a link for a pin board for the setting: https://pin.it/4GmHPasFF
There isn’t much on there however.

Saniwa Interview

You can submit one form for each saniwa (1 form = 1 saniwa) and up to 3 saniwa, more than that we will take the first three submissions. The saniwa you submit should make sense in context (only saniwa that could be invited by the government).

Artwork

∘ Needs some semblance of an environment background (indoors and outdoors is fine), whether bg is drawn or an edited photo is okay (refer to inspiration pic below)
∘ You can also upload a transparent image and I can add a bg in.
∘ Unsplash is a good source for photos you can freely use.
∘ Avoid paywalled photos / photos considered to be the photographer’s art
∘ Simple is okay (and honestly preferred so your saniwa is easier to see)
∘ Attendant in the photo is optional but encouraged (mainly in full body)
∘ If your saniwa is tiny (like a fish), you can have a more zoomed in picture for the full body with your attendant.

Portrait / Full Body

One of the canvas measurements needs to be at least 148 mm and the canvas must be portrait (vertical) for both. Must be 300 dpi.

I would prefer if you can submit both a portrait and full body so I can do the format below, but it is okay if you only do one!

Questions

1. Attendant
2. Design/Character point
- bring focus to things like fashion choices, personality, or honmaru that you would like people to know ( this is you commentating on your saniwa )
3. Prefecture (Optional)
- Where your saniwa is based, does not need to match your actual server
4. When did they become a saniwa?
5. Little reflection on being a saniwa or how has it been at the conference/seeing all the different saniwa (MAX 150 words)

Creator Interview

You can only submit one form here, but it will remain editable until the submission period closes

Profile Picture

a square; 500px x 500px minimum, 72 dpi and above is okay.

I know some of these questions will be difficult to answer for EN only, so just fill out as best as you can!

2. List the saniwa you submitted/plan on submitting
3. Saniwa Level (put your favorite)

Fun stats and graphs
1. How many unique kiwame versus how many unique swords total (please do not count your 30 Doudanukis as 30 swords)

Whetstone:
Steel:

5. What sword do you have the most of and how many copies? (Ex. Kashuu - 3 kiwame, 10 lvl 99 ubu, 5 ubu)

Additional Artwork

This is the form for all the other artwork. You will link a gdrive folder here. Be sure each type of submission has their own folder and is not mixed! (Ex. Meeting illustrations in a separate folder from advertisements) You will only be putting in one folder link!!!
Here is an example of this organization:

Meeting Illustrations

Specifications:
∘ Can be any orientation. Minimum 148 mm on one side, 300 dpi.
∘ Background is not required but encouraged.
∘ Ideally your saniwa should not appear in the center more than 4 times (includes your submissions and others submissions) If they’re a blob in the background that won’t count.

Feel free to collab and do art trades with each other to have multiple saniwas in one illustration.

For the file names, please put the names of the saniwas featured in the name.
(EX. Mina-Komachi-Makoto Meet Illust.png)

Advertisements

ALL ADS MUST BE FICTIONAL!!!!!!! No reference to real entities. (Ex. Do not advertise your commissions)
∘ You can submit just text or artwork.
∘ Artwork is flexible, just needs to be at least 500 px on one side at 300 dpi.
∘ Borderless ads are okay!
∘ Transparent backgrounds are okay!

Small ads will be placed within the zine in and around articles, while full page ads get a dedicated page. (Be wary of the full page ad as we are formatting for both letter size and A4. )
Full page ads must have a bleed border of 3 mm - 6 mm!!
∘ You will need to submit your text separately too, just in case we run into formatting issues

Doodles

Little doodles to sprinkle around the zine as decor.
Can be any size just ensure you are drawing on a 300 dpi canvas.

Note: for the doodles associated with slice of life, please submit that under the writing form.

Writing

You will be submitting doc links here, and a grdrive link for any images.

Articles

IMPORTANT: Due to the nature of this, please contact us before you begin writing!! We don’t want you to start something and it ends up not fitting the style of the project (or risk it lmao)

MAX 1200 words
∘ The topics can range from saniwa life to information on tkrb things.
∘ An introduction to the conference / context will be written by the organizers.

Articles should take the form of something you would find in a conventional magazine. (Interviews, Events, Informative, etc.)
∘ Examples: How to convince your Akaashi to do his duties, tips for getting resources quickly, brief history of the kobizen
∘ Typically in first person and informal, unless discussing opinions from an outsider pov or spreading information.
∘ There will be a question asking if you have any preferences on how you wish it to be formatted. (You can look on the Pinterest board or online for ideas)

Slice of Life

Drabbles ∘ MAX 200 words ∘ Send in a little drabble of a cute memory from your honmaru to be compiled in a spread.
∘ Example: The first time a sword had their favorite food, the time the saniwa got roped into a snowball fight
∘ Needs to be written like your saniwa is retelling the story!

Yonkoma strips and doodles are okay here!
∘ Example: a 4 panel strip of sayo giving money to a saniwa with ripped jeans on
∘ The long side needs to be a minimum of 148 mm at 300 dpi for a yonkoma.
∘ For doodles, at least 1000 px at 300 dpi on one side is good.

MAX ONE STORY PER PERSON
∘ If you submit a text drabble and a comic strip, we will ask you to choose one.
∘ If there aren’t many submissions, we will announce that we are accepting more.

IRL Photos

You will be submitting a gdrive folder containing all the photos you wish to include.
∘ Things like merch travel and food photos, your shrines, cosplay, posing with sprites (should be okay since we are not profiting?)
∘ Please submit high quality photos.(Do not worry about file format, .png or .jpg is okay)
∘ Feel free to submit as many as you like, just note that we might not be able to include everything if there are too many submissions, but at least 1 photo you submit will be present (you can mark which one you really want included by adding "THIS" to the title)
∘ No NSFW
∘ Nothing that could be incriminating to personal information.
∘ It’ll be up to you if you wish to include your face or not
∘ We will contact you if we need to crop anything.
∘ Doodling over your photos is completely okay! Just no full illustrations.
